Alex & Stephen’s Engagement Session in the Golden Aspens
Golden aspens in Colorado are a breathtaking sight, and Alex and Stephen knew from the start that they wanted their engagement photos to capture this fleeting beauty. The challenge? Timing it just right. The golden aspens only last for about two weeks at their peak, and the timing varies across the state. Higher elevations see the change first, while lower elevations, like Denver, turn later. Planning an engagement session in the golden aspens requires flexibility and local knowledge, and I worked with Alex and Stephen to find the perfect time and location.
Chasing Peak Color in the Golden Aspens
Finding the golden aspens at their peak is all about understanding Colorado’s unique fall season. Since the timing shifts depending on elevation, I helped Alex and Stephen pick a location where the leaves were at their most vibrant. We headed to a mountain spot where the aspens were at full peak, creating the golden canopy they had been dreaming of. The contrast of the bright yellow leaves against the deep blue sky made for an incredible backdrop.
A Rushing Waterfall
As we explored the area, we drove right past a rushing waterfall. Stephen was immediately drawn to it, so we had to stop. The sound of the water, the cool mist in the air—it added something special to their engagement session. He was excited to take some photos near the falls, and we captured some amazing moments. It was one of those spontaneous discoveries that made their session even more memorable.
Sunset at the Overlook
After capturing the golden aspens in the afternoon light, we made our way to one of my favorite overlooks to watch the sunset. Colorado was at peak color, and the view was unreal. The sky exploded in hues of orange and pink, complementing the golden aspens perfectly. It was one of the most stunning sunsets I’ve seen all season, and Alex and Stephen took it all in, savoring the moment together.
The Magic of Golden Aspens in the Fall
The golden aspens are one of Colorado’s most iconic fall sights. Their brief but brilliant season makes them all the more special. Higher elevations see them change first, while lower elevations follow in waves, creating a rolling transition of color throughout the state. Weather can play a big role in their peak, with early frosts or late warmth shifting the timeline from year to year.
Being in the golden aspens at their peak is an experience unlike any other. The crisp mountain air, the rustling of the leaves, and the way the sun filters through the golden canopy—it’s a fleeting reminder of how quickly the seasons change. Whether hiking through a grove, taking in the view from a scenic overlook, or stumbling upon an unexpected waterfall, these moments in the golden aspens are ones to savor.

This engagement session captured the fleeting beauty of Colorado’s golden aspens. From a rushing waterfall to a breathtaking sunset, the day was filled with vibrant fall colors, crisp mountain air, and unforgettable moments in nature’s most stunning season.
