Cheryl & Cody’s
Wedding at YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park
Cheryl and Cody’s wedding was centered around their family and Native American traditions. Held at the beautiful YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado, their ceremony began with the bride walking down the aisle to the groom singing a song he wrote in remembrance of the bride’s father, which set the perfect tone for their heartfelt ceremony. After the ceremony, Cody’s sister dressed Cheryl in traditional Meskawaki clothing as a symbol of welcoming her into their family. It was such a special moment to be a part of, and when Cheryl and Cody snuck away with me to take sunset pictures in Rocky Mountain National Park, I truly felt lucky to be a part of this coming together of families and traditions and celebration of two amazing people.
The day started early, with the crisp mountain air filled with anticipation and excitement. The setting at the YMCA of the Rockies was picturesque, with tall pines and the majestic Rocky Mountains providing a stunning backdrop for the day’s events. Family members bustled around, preparing for the ceremony, their faces lit with joy and a sense of purpose. The sense of community was palpable, and it was clear that this wedding was not just about Cheryl and Cody, but about the merging of two families and the honoring of deep-rooted traditions.
Cheryl looked radiant as she got ready, surrounded by her closest friends and family. Her dress, a beautiful blend of contemporary elegance and traditional elements, perfectly symbolized the union of modern and ancient customs. As Cody’s song filled the air, there wasn’t a dry eye among the guests. His voice carried a depth of emotion that resonated with everyone present, making the moment even more poignant.
The ceremony itself was a beautiful blend of traditions, with elements of Native American culture seamlessly integrated into the proceedings. The exchange of vows was heartfelt and sincere, with both Cheryl and Cody speaking words that reflected their deep love and respect for each other. The inclusion of a traditional Native American blessing added a spiritual depth to the ceremony, invoking the presence and guidance of their ancestors.
After the ceremony, the reception was a joyous affair, filled with laughter, music, and dancing. The highlight was undoubtedly when Cody’s sister dressed Cheryl in the traditional Meskawaki clothing. The intricate designs and vibrant colors of the attire were breathtaking, and Cheryl looked stunning as she donned the garments, a symbol of her new place within Cody’s family. This act of welcoming was deeply touching, symbolizing not just acceptance, but a deep bond of love and respect.
As the sun began to set, Cheryl and Cody and I made our way to Rocky Mountain National Park for a private photo session. The park, with its sweeping vistas and golden light, provided the perfect setting for capturing the love between the newlyweds. As they stood together, the sun casting a warm glow over them, it was a moment of pure magic. The beauty of the landscape mirrored the beauty of their relationship, a testament to the love and commitment they had for each other.
The day ended with a feeling of profound gratitude and joy. Cheryl and Cody’s wedding was more than a celebration of their love; it was a tribute to their heritage, their families, and the rich traditions that had shaped their lives. Being a part of such a meaningful event was an honor, and as I watched the newlyweds embrace under the fading light, I couldn’t help but feel that I had witnessed something truly special. This wedding was not just about the union of two people, but the coming together of families, cultures, and traditions, creating a foundation of love and respect that would last a lifetime.
