The Surf Hotel, located in Buena Vista, Colorado, offers adventure-loving couples a luxury boutique experience. Drawing inspiration from the elegance of European hospitality and the owners’ house in the Rocky Mountains. It is host to a various outdoor settings for your wedding ceremony and an indoor, trendy onsite ballroom. Perched above the rapids of the Buena Vista Whitewater Park, the Surf Hotel offers a travel experience where European elegance meets Rocky Mountain beauty. From solo travelers to wedding parties, their contemporary approach to hospitality caters to diverse styles of leisure. 

Nestled within a 41-acre expanse between the historic old town of Buena Vista and the captivating Arkansas River. South Main originated as the visionary dream of Jed Selby, an avid whitewater kayaker and enterprising entrepreneur. South Main has since become a thriving hub that embraces small businesses and attracts athletes from various disciplines. The Surf Hotel, the latest addition to this dynamic community, is a magnet for those seeking a balance between adventure and mindful living.

General Aesthetic & Guest Accommodations

The Surf Hotel and Surf Chateau are sister buildings with similar, yet not the same, styles and aesthetics. The Surf Hotel has more of a trendy luxurious feel, while Surf Chateau feels more like elegant European countryside. In both buildings, the rooms have an emphasis on quality and simplicity, although in the Surf Chateau, the rooms are more like cottages. Combined both buildings have a total of 62 rooms available for guests to stay in. The Surf Hotel also features a beautiful lobby with a couple of comfy places to sit and relax in, and lobby bar with a restaurant on the side.

Ceremony, Reception & Rehearsal Dinner

The Surf Hotel has various options for your outdoor wedding ceremony. A cozy, charming courtyard, called the Ivy Courtyard, with outdoor seating available May through October and is available until 10pm. Another option is a beautiful lawn with mountain views, called The Meadows. Lastly at the Surf Chateau, is the Chateau Courtyard, pending inclusive rental of Surf Chateau’s 20 rooms for two nights. All outdoor wedding ceremony locations allow up to 150 guests.

For the reception, Surf Hotel has an indoor wedding reception space called The Ivy Ballroom. The ballroom overlooks the Buena Vista Whitewater Park and also has a beautiful mountain view. This trendy venue features breathtaking views, classic arched windows and French doors with streamlined, industrial simplicity. The reception space allows up to 150 guests, 180 if it’s indoors and outdoors utilizing the Ivy Courtyard. At max capacity tables can be removed to create a dance floor, keep in mind the ballroom is available until 10pm.

The Wesley & Rose restaurant’s private dining room is perfect for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The private dining room has an attached riverfront patio that can accommodate up to 30 guests for a seated dinner available until 10pm.

The rental fees depend on things like day of the week, time of day, and time of year. The starting fee during peak season is $5,000. During off-peak season you can expect a $2,000 starting site fee.

For a Hotel Buyout, which includes THE IVY BALLROOM + PRIVATE COURTYARD + WESLEY & ROSE, the price is between $14,000 to $45,000 and does not include guest room rental fees. The prices for staying at the hotel vary with the seasons, and the pricing average is about $300 per night. Keep in mind, for a hotel buyout it is required for weddings over 180 guests in the high season, and 150 guests in the low season.

Other Considerations

Surf Hotel offers beautiful rooms for wedding guests to stay in and an amazing town to explore. Buena Vista is a great town with so many places to explore both in the town and around for adventurers. A great idea to keep in mind is to visit a brewery with your guests after your rehearsal dinner at Wesley and Rose. The Surf Hotel’s restaurant is also a great place to have dinner during the week and brunch on Sundays. The hotel is right next to the river and other than providing an exquisite view, it has a beautiful trail along the river.
